Wardrobe Designs Can Be Large or Small

In some ways, the size of your wardrobe closet speaks more to your personality than anything else.  You will either likely have too many clothes that you can’t seem to part with or your wardrobe is simply too large for the space it is in.  This is so true of many modern homes.  Since the trend is to build larger and larger closets, the tendency is to want to buy a large wardrobe as well.  This can be a mistake if the room in which it is to be used is not also large enough to make it feel proportionally balanced.  In many cases, a properly utilized single wardrobe can be more than sufficient.  This is true when using one in a child’s room.  While it may seem like your children have loads of clothes, if properly organized, they may fit neatly within a single.

Some wardrobe designs take into account the modern appreciation for being sleek and as unobtrusive as possible.  These would have a more sleek appearance with less in the way of carving or detailed workmanship on the wood.  Since most wardrobes are made of wood, this was once a more common feature – carving and such, that is.  Now, there is a more minimalist approach to many home and bedroom decorating design elements.  If you have an antique wardrobe closet, then you know how their detailing was a sign of the pride from the craftsman.  When built-in closets were not yet an invention or convenience in the modern home, the wardrobe served as the way to house one’s clothing.

It is also true that we had less clothing at that time in history as well.  A man might have several shirts and pants, while a woman might have a handful of dresses from which to choose.  The amount of choice and clothing we have today is in stark contrast to what used to be the norm.  So, the use of a single wardrobe is probably less and less of a probability in many homes.  However, with good planning, as discussed, it can still be a fine choice.  Similarly, if you like the details from those old wardrobe designs, then you might find that you can only get them in the smaller size because of the history of the closet.
