Lawn Care Tips

In order to have a healthy and beautiful lawn it must be adequately maintained and cared for. By following specific spring lawn care tips anyone can bring out their lawn’s true potential.

Correct Mowing

Although one of the easiest ways to care for a lawn it is often the most misunderstood method. Many people incorrectly assume that it is okay to mow their lawns very low. Unfortunately by cutting the grass too short it will lead to shallow root systems causing the grass to thin and die out. Always set the blades to lawn mowers at a decent height to prevent the destruction of the lawn’s root system.

Control Weeds

In order for a lawn to look it’s best the weed population must be controlled. Even a lawn that has just been mowed will appear unsightly and uneven if there are lawn weeds growing in the grass and rising up above the turf level. The proper herbicide must be applied on a regular basis to lawns in order to maintain the aesthetic look and feel of the lawn. A lawn that is free of weeds is easier to maintain and retains an even turf level for up to a week following a cutting.

Fertilizing

One of the best lawn care tips is too fertilize lawns at regular intervals. Lawns benefit from fertilizer because it adds much needed nutrients to the soil enabling the grass to grow healthier and thicker. Lawns treated with fertilizer have thick green blades of grass that look noticeably better than untreated lawns. Most types of grass will respond positively to fertilizer if it is applied four times a year.

Watering

Keeping the lawn watered is the single most important lawn care tip. Without water the grass will dry up and die. In order to prevent this from happening lawns must be watered on a regular basis. In some dry climates lawns must be watered several times a day in order to maintain their look and health. Automatic water sprinkler systems are an excellent hands off approach to achieving this goal.
