Using Exterior Lights to Create an Amazing Atmosphere

Many serious gardeners will tell you that they spend hours of hard work and brainstorming to create the perfect atmosphere for their plants outside.  Gardens really have become an extra room of the house and should be enjoyed both night and day just the way your home is.  Installing garden lights is one way that you can do this.  If you’re looking to install some garden lights, here are a few general landscape lighting ideas that you can use to create a creative lighting sceme that will make your neighbors envious.

One of the easiest things to do is to play with the colors of your lights.  Just changing the color of bulbs can dramatically change the looks and feel of a garden without changing the placement of any existing fixtures.  On one hand, you can create a nice, warm atmosphere by installing bulbs that are yellow or red.  On the other hand, make a cooler, more arctic atmosphere by installing blue or white light.  The latter effect is especially popular in areas that have a lot of pine tree.  Or opt for a completely different approach and use green bulbs.  Used under a tree green bulbs can make your foliage pop out and appear a surreal color of green.

Don’t just light your plants either.  Find different structural elements in your garden that can be lit as well.  You don’t need fountains or statues for this to work either.  Try washing the side of your house or a fence in light to bring out its texture or bring attention to the colorful plants infront of it.  YOu can also point a light focused away from the viewer along a fence or other border to create a appealing effect.
