Giving the right gift is never easy, and adults are even more difficult than children. We all know the feeling well – there is a birthday coming closer, you know you need to find something but you have no inspiration at all!
Gardening is an untapped gift giving resource in many ways. Think about it – so many people have gardens around their homes, in which they either do work, or complain that they don’t do enough work in. Either way, you could help them out pretty easily – give them something they can use, or something that will inspire them.
The good thing is there are so many small affordable garden gifts around. Giving plants can be a good idea – they can usually sit in post for a while and still look attractive, then be re planted elsewhere.
Garden tools also make great gifts. Ranging from small hand trowels and weed rakes to quite expensive larger items like pruning shears or mulchers, there is plenty to choose from. A good rule to keep in mind when selecting gifts is always 1) something they need, or, 2) Something that will surprise them, or, 3) something they want but would never actually buy for themselves. Why not buy them a really top quality set of pruning secateurs, something higher quality than they need but just a special treat they will really appreciate every time they use it.
Think as well about ornaments. These don’t have to be little peeing statues or garden gnomes. Maybe something classic like a sun dial, or even an actual ready to hang garden clock. This can be a very useful thing to have as many gardeners will take off their wrist watches while they work outside. Modern garden clocks are totally weather proof, so you can hang them or mount them wherever you want.
So next time that special occasion rolls around, consider whether a gardening gift might not fill the order!
