Apply A Garage Floor Sealer To Protect Your Investment

I want to talk to you today about something that happened to me and I don’t want it to happen to you.  I had a very big expense this winter in my garage and the sad thing is it could have been avoided if I would have done a simple little weekend project.  I did not protect my garage floor and now I have to pay the price.

What happened is my floor was never sealed.  I developed a crack right down the middle which is not uncommon as the floors continue to cure.  Concrete actually cures by a chemical reaction, not by drying, so it can take years for it to get to its potential hardness.

Well, I thought about applying a garage floor treatment but I didn’t.  This meant the crack was left exposed.  Apparently, when I was washing out the garage with the hose, water seeped down through the crack and got under the floor.  There it just sat until we had an unusual cold snap.  Long story short the water froze and buckled the floor.  I had to have a contractor come in and tear up a large section with jack hammers and re-pour it.

Believe you me I applied a garage floor sealer this time because I don’t want to go through that again.  And it really wasn’t that expensive at all.  A couple hundred bucks for the epoxy paint and a weekend of work.  And it wasn’t a full weekend either.  I cleaned the floor in the morning on Saturday and made my tee time while it dried.  Sunday I spread the epoxy out and we spent the afternoon at my Mother-In-Law’s.  ( I would have rather been working!)

Anyway, if you have a concrete floor in your garage it would be well worth treating it with a garage floor sealer to save you an expensive repair.
