When Should You Buy Fitted Bedroom Furniture From Your Local Furniture Retailer?

You can buy two main types of bedroom furniture from most furniture outlets – flat-pack furniture and fitted bedroom furniture. If you go to a high-class furniture boutique (in the city) or a good carpenter (in a small town), you may also be able to order custom or bespoke furniture. Each type of bedroom furniture has its own strengths and weaknesses. What you buy should depend on what you need and where you live.

For example, if you need to make efficient use of space in a cramped bedroom, you will need to buy either fitted bedroom furniture or custom bedroom furniture. If you live in the city, fitted furniture is much cheaper and holds the strongest advantage when furnishing your master bedroom. On the other hand, your guests do not need as much space for a short visit, so flat-pack furniture is sufficient for your guest bedrooms.

Luxury fitted bedroom furniture for your master bedroom has many styles. Some are simple and minimalist, for example the rustic, country and mission-styles. Others are ornate and gothic, for example the Victorian style. The wardrobe doors may also be completely mirrored in a Modern style. But regardless of which style you choose, the wardrobes usually stretch from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall. The bed should also have drawers and storage compartments underneath instead of the box-spring or solid bed-base common in modern beds.

Most of the wardrobes used in fitted bedroom furniture use the full carcase design. They need to be fitted against a completely flat wall with squared corners. However, there are two other designs available – sliding door and frame-construction. The sliding door built-in wardrobe saves space by using a sliding door instead of a hinged door. It is good when you want to have a bigger bed than usual in your bedroom, e.g. a king-sized bed. It is actually the cheapest type of fitted wardrobe, and also the easiest to install. The frame construction built-in wardrobe is the most expensive, but also the most flexible. It does not have the weakness of the full-carcase wardrobe and can be installed in an odd-shaped bedroom, e.g. one made by converting an attic or basement.

Whether you buy flat-pack furniture, fitted bedroom furniture or custom bedroom furniture depends on your needs and where you stay. If you need to make optimal use of space in a cramped bedroom, then you need to buy either fitted or custom furniture. In a small town where you can find good carpenters working cheap, custom furniture made from high quality pine wood makes more sense. On the other hand, in a large city, fitted furniture has a strong price advantage.
