There are many different choices you have when buying a toilet seat. There are different things such as material, style and color, there are also heated toilet seats, we personally have heated elongated toilet seats in our house.
The most popular toilet seats are made from plastic because they are easy to clean, even easier to install and are really durable. Plastic toilet seats wipe off easy and are harder to chip or scratch than other materials. The only major downfall is they do not always look the best.
Installation is a snap, all you do is apply the toilet seat bolts and then most plastic toilet seats have a twist lock feature where you can just twist the lock hinges right to the toilet seat bolts.
Plastic toilet seats also come in a wide range of styles and colors, just do a quick search online and you will see many more different styles of toilet seats than anywhere else.
Wood toilet seats are the second most popular, people love to see their natural look in their bathroom. Wood also allows for hundreds of different stain colors so you can select something that matches the rest of your bathroom. Overall wood toilet seats are not as durable as plastic, they can crack or the finish can fade over time. But if you really love that wood grain look you can’t go wrong.
Some of the newer elongated toilet seats on the market today are wood with a plastic like enamel finish over it, this greatly improves the durability and clean-ability of the seat. The only negative aspect of this is over time the enamel finish can wear off, requiring you purchase a new seat.
With that being said the average life span of a toilet seat is less than 5 years because of daily use and the overall abuse it takes. Believe it or not bathrooms are one of the most high traffic rooms in the house, especially if you cook like my mom!
