Choosing Asphalt Roofing Shingles

Asphalt roof shingles are a popular choice for many new and replacement roofs. They are widely available in many colors and styles which will allow you to choose a roof you know will look great on your property no matter what kind of home you have or where you are living. They are generally lost lasting and durable while also being reasonably priced in the long term when compared to the other roofing materials available. This keeps repair and maintenance costs relatively low if your asphalt shingle roof is of a high quality and professionally installed. When any repair or replacement work does need to be completed on your roof shingles costs should be low due to the many companies currently offering high quality products. This also means that the necessary materials are easy to obtain.

Whatever climate you are currently living in there will likely be a number of roofing shingle options available to you. The high quality products will usually be resistant to any kind of cracking or melting under extreme temperatures. High winds should not put you off of purchasing high quality asphalt roof shingles as long as in they are installed professionally on your property. Shingles are also now available which are resistant to the growth of any algae which should make them particularly suitable for use in areas which experience frequent heavy rainfall.

As we know there is a large choice of roofing shingles available. The majority of these are going to be of either the Organic or the Fiberglass variety. Organic shingles have been around a lot longer and are being replaced by the more modern fibreglass roofing shingles. They are not as durable and will have shorter life expectancies than the fiberglass options which are increasing in popularity. Fibreglass roof shingles are far superior to the organic choices currently available. They are both lighter and more resilient with better fire resistance ratings.

When you are planning to shingle a roof with asphalt roof shingles and have decided to use either the fiberglass or organic variety you will need to choose between purchasing the Three-tab and Architectural options. These options relate to how the shingles fit together when they are laid on your roof. The three-tab option is cheaper but they will not fit with each other as comfortably as the architectural shingles, they are usually also more difficult to install. If you can afford them then architectural asphalt roof shingles are the obvious choice for your home. They have a longer life expectancy with quicker installation times and a more snug fit ensuring your roof will be finished to a higher standard when the project is complete. If you will be installing roof shingles then fiberglass architectural shingles are a great option. With a wide range of long lasting, durable options available to choose from they make for a good long term investment.
