We expect quite a lot out of our patio cushions. They are out in the sun for long hours. They may be left out in the rain too if we forget to take them indoors. We sit on them all summer long (and if we have a good climate, perhaps all year long too.) So you really need to buy good quality cushions which will be able to withstand everything you throw at them.
And the trouble is cheap patio cushions are rarely good quality patio cushions.
The thing is, even the fabric which the cushions are made from is expensive to manufacture. It is generally thick canvas which has been specially treated to ensure it is both shower proof and resistant to fading from the sun. In recent years, manufacturers have been able to produce fabric which feel comfortable as well as waterproof too. None of this comes cheap, so if the price of your cushions is in the “too good to be true” mold then it probably means that the fabric is inferior to the higher end quality cushions.
As well as being made in better fabric, quality cushions have an inner padding which is comfortable to sit on for long periods. The padding is firm while still having some “give” so that it protects you from the hardness of the furniture while still feeling soft enough for comfort. Once you get up from your chair, the cushion springs back into shape and avoids your chairs looking a mess or you having to continually plump up the cushions. Cheap patio cushions are likely to have thin foam inner pads. They will be more comfortable than sitting on bare furniture, of course, but you won’t have the comfort of the thicker patio cushions.
If you are low on funds it is better to put off buying cushions than to buy cheap ones. If you have some cash to spare try seeking out places online which sell discount patio cushions from the better manufacturers. In that way you might get a true bargain rather than an inferior product.
