Decorating Options For Bay Window Valances

The options for decorating with bay window valances are endless. Most bay windows are divided into two or three separate sections. This gives the decorator many different options in window treatments as you can choose to decorate the windows separately of each other or as one area. Two or three panels panels may be used as valances for bay window sections. Alternatively, one large accent covering the entire window section may work. Much of the decision lies in the look that is desired and the size of each individual window.

There are no set rules on how to use the bay window valance in your dining area. Because the window is set back or recessed beyond the wall, window coverings may be installed directly over each window, or over the window frame, for more of an exotic look. This method might also coordinate with window seating, to help create a more private space. A window scarf serves as an excellent valance. However, because such a window is typically wider than others, the scarf may not drape down the sides of the window. Simply using another scarf across the top and down the other side will help achieve a more uniform look.

Other choices in window valances for this type of window involve using valance panels, which come in a multitude of styles, colors and patterns. They may be used by themselves or with other window treatments, such as draperies or blinds. Used alone, they can make a bold statement. For three window sections, triangular sections on the ends, with a straight section in the middle, create a framed look. Ballooned panels also add drama to the space. They provide a softer feel and also work well with window seats. Some styles may balloon or scallop more than others, so the appropriate length should be considered before purchase. There are many other options in window accents for a recessed window. Creativity for this special area is the only limit.
