No Two Basin Sinks Are Alike

When homeowners sign the papers for a new home, the last thing on their minds is the type of sinks to choose from. When it comes time to select one, a lesson learned quickly is that some serious thought has to be put into it. Homeowners everywhere go through the basin sink blues, and I’m here to say that you’re not alone.

The first step to any purchase for the house is to measure the space available. Please don’t learn your lesson the hard way like I did. All four sides have to be considered, as well as proportion to the entire room, relation to the counter tops, cupboards, an island range hood, etc. For instance, if your kitchen is large and magnificent, using a small sink would look silly and probably wouldn’t be practical. On the same note, a tiny bathroom could use that small sink so that it doesn’t get in the way.

Speaking of bathrooms, one of the most efficient ways to save space is to have storage under the sink. This opens up a whole new realm of possibilities. There are a lot of double, triple and single basin sinks to choose from that have cabinets built right on. Some sinks don’t come with anything built in, though, and this gives the opportunity to fabricate something of your own. Selection of shelving, cabinet doors, and handles seems easy enough, but the options can get overwhelming. What materials and color to use, how much to get, and the style are all things to take into account.

If that’s not enough shopping for you, don’t worry! There is still the selection of the faucet and all the hardware that is included. Some basin sinks come with hardware, and that makes it easier and cheaper. However, there are certainly other options. The range of faucets and knobs has something for everyone, with all types of shapes, sizes, and styles included.
